Colorado same-sex couples find pre-screened, gay-friendly wedding and event professionals
DENVER, April 30, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- With the enactment of civil unions in Colorado, GLBTQ (gay, lesbian, bi, trans, queer) couples will be turning to professionals to help them with planning their special days. Selecting the right professionals for a civil union or wedding (it's not illegal to call a union a wedding), takes time and patience. Additionally, GLBTQ couples are faced with "coming out" each time they make a phone call to request information from a service professional or venue. In 2011, www.coloradogayweddings.com was launched, offering couples a source for finding pre-screened gay-owned and gay-friendly wedding and civil union professionals. Many of the advertisers have been long-standing supporters of gay marriage and/or civil unions in Colorado, and are not "jumping on the bandwagon" to capitalize on the change in laws.
To advertise, businesses must apply and then, their website and collateral is reviewed for inclusive language and photography. While it is not the mission of www.coloradogayweddings.com to enforce any rules about how a company advertises, businesses are encouraged to only use and publish gender-neutral materials that are appropriate for all couples and don't discriminate or single-out any one type of couple.
Couples visiting the site may submit their own personal love stories, pictures of their formal wedding/commitment celebrations, and report issues they face with both advertisers and non-advertisers.
Professionals seeking advice on how to work with GLBTQ couples are also welcome to email firstname.lastname@example.org to schedule their own personal consultation and review of services.
www.coloradogayweddings.com is owned by Mark Paquette, a wedding and civil union planner in Colorado.
