Comcast Partners With AG Blumenthal To Keep Kids Safe Online

CT AG Featured in Child Internet Safety PSA During National Internet Safety Month

BERLIN, Conn., June 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Comcast, Connecticut's leading provider of entertainment, information and communications products and services, today announced that they have joined forces with Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal to keep children safe online. Comcast produced a 30-second Public Service Announcement (PSA) featuring Attorney General Blumenthal and McGruff the Crime Dog focused on Internet safety that will air across Connecticut throughout the month of June, coinciding with National Internet Safety Month.

The PSA highlights steps and tips parents and caretakers can take to protect children and help them avoid online predators, cyber bullying and pornography, including installing parental controls, teaching kids to never give out their personal information online and keeping the home computer in a busy, central location.

"Comcast is committed to providing our customers with a safe and secure Internet experience," said Michael Parker, Comcast Vice President for Connecticut. "Children rely on the Internet more than ever for communication, research, school work and socialization, and while the Internet can be a powerful and effective tool, it is important to educate young people on how to stay safe online."

"The Internet provides profound opportunities -- but also perils -- for our children," said Attorney General Richard Blumenthal. "My office is continuing the vigorous battle to protect children from predators online. Because information is power, I am working with Comcast to educate parents and caregivers on the importance of Internet safety. Parents are always the first and last line of defense and we must provide them with all the tools necessary to protect their children."

Comcast is the nation's leading residential Internet Service Provider and takes its responsibility to provide a safe and secure online experience very seriously. With a comprehensive, multi-layered approach, Comcast has not only built Internet safety protections into the very fabric of its network operations, but has also partnered with leading Internet safety software companies and advocacy organizations to provide tools and resources for individuals and families to protect their identities, children and digital assets.

Comcast provides all of its residential high-speed internet customers with the McAfee(R) Internet Security Suite -- one of the most robust, highly-acclaimed Internet security solutions offered by any Internet Service Provider free of charge. Comcast Security powered by McAfee(R) Internet Security Suite provides a simple, convenient and reliable way for Comcast High-Speed Internet customers to protect their identities, their families and their computers. McAfee software provides a full suite of security tools for parents, including parental controls that block Web sites, filter Web content, monitor chat sessions and allow parents to log their children's Internet activity.

Comcast also offers a comprehensive Security Channel on its consumer portal, Comcast.net (www.comcast.net/security). The Comcast Security Channel serves as an online resource to help customers protect themselves from spam, viruses and other online threats.

The comprehensive set of McAfee(R) security tools is available in a single download on Comcast.net's Security Channel. Comcast.net customers can access Parental Control features by clicking the "parental controls" section on the main Security Center Web page at www.comcast.net/security, which also features tips and resources from the Internet Keep Safe Coalition (iKeepSafe).
