Company Gives Away Entire Marketing Budget To Help Victims Of Hurricane Sandy Startup launches challenge that will donate money to charity for every new user that signs up for its free service.
DALLAS, Nov. 12, 2012 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Glass (shopglass.com) is a startup launching nationwide today. But, rather than spending it's limited marketing budget on traditional launch activities, the company has decided to hold a challenge that gives away its entire budget of $10,000 to help the 40,000 children and families impacted by the devastating Hurricane Sandy.
Glass, is a free website and mobile application for the style conscious consumer that is too busy to window shop for hours each week. Glass helps consumers save time and money by quickly and easily discovering the best deals and new arrivals at stores in their city. The company has developed technology that searches social networks such as Facebook to source deal and product data from over 57,000 retail clothing, accessory and shoe stores in 300+ US cities. Stores covered by Glass range from national chains to small boutiques.
For this 10 day challenge, Glass will donate 5 cents for every new user at shopglass.com/challenge, up to $5,000. If the goal of 100,000 new users is reached within this period, the donation will be doubled to $10,000. The money will be divided equally among the charities Save The Children and Feeding America. Both charities are actively involved in providing clothing, shelter and food to hurricane victims in the North East United States.
"We were initially planning on giving away fashion related prizes and gift certificates to increase buzz and attract new users. But, after we saw the devastation caused by Hurricane Sandy, we decided we could put the money to better use helping victims of the disaster, while at the same time getting the word out on our new product through this challenge. We wish we had more than $10,000 to give away, but we're happy to give as much as we can." said Co-Founder & CEO, Nikhil Nilakantan.
The company hopes that this bold challenge will go viral. "We can only reach our aggressive goal if we get a lot of help. Together, we can help those who really need all the help they can get right now. At the same time, by signing up you'll be helping our startup get enough traction to grow into a flourishing business that can do more good in the future" said Nilakantan.
The company is urging everyone to help spread the word about the challenge so it can give away the entire $10,000 amount.
