KENNETT SQUARE, Pa., July 16 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Comverge, Inc. (Nasdaq: COMV), a leading provider of smart grid, demand management and energy efficiency solutions, today announced its partnership with the Pennsylvania Department of General Services to service the demand response pilot program being conducted by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Comverge won a competitive bid to determine a demand response partner for selected Commonwealth government buildings.

Under the agreement, Comverge will provide a turnkey implementation program for demand response services including load curtailment opportunity identification, program education, registration, notification, compliance, settlement functions and, where applicable, metering and integration within PJM Interconnection. Comverge began the pilot program with four participating Commonwealth facilities in the summer of 2009. Should this program be deemed successful, all PA government buildings, including hospitals, educational and correctional facilities, will have the opportunity to participate in the various demand response programs offered by PJM through this partnership between Comverge and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

George Hunt, Comverge Senior Vice President, Sales, stated, "This partnership will be a key element in the movement toward Smart Grid reliability and sustainability that will benefit all those residing or doing business within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. This initiative of the Pennsylvania Department of General Services speaks directly to several factors that will only grow in importance over the coming years. Reduction of energy consumption and its carbon footprint as well as improved grid reliability are focal points directly addressed by the Commonwealth in this partnership. The Commonwealth and the Department of General Services should be commended for its innovation and forward thinking, especially at a time when we need creative energy solutions the most."
