Consortium of Businesses, Civic Groups Rally to Support Salvation Army Food Pantry
Sealy and FOX8 Kick-off the 4th Annual Triad Holiday Challenge
Twenty-four Companies Rise to the Challenge
ARCHDALE, N.C., Nov. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Sealy, FOX8/WGHP, and Old Dominion
Freight Line jointly announced today that a total of 24 organizations have
committed to participate in North Carolina's 4th Annual Triad Holiday
Challenge. The consortium of businesses and civic groups in the Piedmont
Triad rallies together during the holiday season to raise donations of
nonperishable food and necessities for the Salvation Army Food Pantry.
In the spirit of friendly competition, participating organizations create
internal food drives -- competing with similar-sized organizations to generate
the most donated items. Donations support the eight counties in the Triad
that the Salvation Army Food Pantry serves. Last year, donations of 320,000
items collected through the Triad Holiday Challenge and the Sealy/FOX8 Concert
Series in Winston-Salem and Greensboro supported the Salvation Army Food
Pantry through June of 2005.
"The Challenge gives all of our organizations a way to come together to
flex our charitable muscles -- to do something that has a personal impact on
local families and their well being," said Dave McIlquham, chairman and chief
executive officer of Sealy.
"The need for canned food donations is greater than ever this year with
the hurricanes and so many people out of work due to plant closings," said
Karen Adams, Vice President and General Manager of FOX8/WGHP and Chairman of
the Salvation Army Advisory Board of High Point. "It takes great companies
like Sealy and Old Dominion to help us collect as much food as possible to
help The Salvation Army help those in need in our communities."
"Old Dominion has been part of the Sealy, FOX8 Holiday Concerts and
Corporate Challenge for the past 3 years as a sponsor. We have found the
experience to be a tremendous opportunity for the company and our employees to
participate in a very worthwhile cause right here in the Piedmont Triad.
Without question, the Sealy, FOX8 Holiday Concerts and Challenge certainly
deliver a valuable solution to those in need. We are very proud to be
associated with such a wonderful event," said David Congdon, President and
Chief Operating Officer of Old Dominion Freight Line, Inc.
