WAYNE, N.J., July 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Toshiba America Consumer Products,
L.L.C. ("Toshiba") announced it has extended its highly successful 5 free
HD DVD disc promotion, "The Perfect Offer," until September 30, 2007. "The
Perfect Offer," a strategic promotion started last year by Toshiba to
encourage purchase of Toshiba HD DVD players, has been met with
overwhelming demand and consumer response and has contributed to strong
sales of Toshiba HD DVD players.
As a result, with the purchase of any Toshiba HD DVD player, consumers
will continue to be able to select five HD DVD titles for free, from a
selection of 15, via a mail-in offer. Full offer details are available at

Consumers have spoken -- price matters. Toshiba recently announced that
it is lowering prices on HD DVD players to a level that took standard DVD
players three years to reach. With HD DVD, consumers can get high
definition 1080p resolution at the best value in the market today.
Toshiba's 1080p HD- A20 is only $399 (MSRP), and for the best value in high
definition, Toshiba's 1080i HD-A2 is only $299 (MSRP). The combination of
an HD-A2 or HD-A20 HD DVD player and up to $150 worth of free movies is a
value that is unmatched by any other competitor.
The extension of "The Perfect Offer" comes at a great time for
consumers as studio partners have recently announced HD DVD movie titles
that include web-enabled network capabilities. Purchasers of Toshiba HD DVD
players can enjoy the most extensive interactive features in the market
today via this technology. Whether an individual is planning to purchase HD
DVD or already has, every Toshiba HD DVD player will be able to provide
web-enabled interactive features through a firmware update.
Toshiba's latest firmware update supports improved network connectivity
for downloading web-enabled network content and is another example of the
company's commitment toward achieving the ultimate home entertainment
experience. No other high definition home entertainment format currently
matches the features offered by Toshiba and the HD DVD format.
Using the Ethernet ports found on all Toshiba HD DVD players, and the
currently available firmware update, once connected to the network, users
can access bonus features. For example users can access new trailers,
online polls, clips and more, as available, from a movie studio's server.
     About Toshiba HD DVD players
Toshiba's line-up of HD DVD players delivers stunning image quality,
astounding audio capabilities and superb interactive capabilities. To meet
the latest advancements in audio/video interfaces, Toshiba's models connect
to HDTV sets via the High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI(TM)).
Toshiba's HD DVD players output HD DVD content through the HDMI interface
 in 720p or 1080i for the HD-A2, and 720p, 1080i or 1080p for the HD-A20 and
the HD-XA2. Through the HDMI interface, DVD content can be upconverted to
near HD picture quality. The HD-A2, HD-A20 and HD-XA2 are all backward
compatible, so users can continue to enjoy their libraries of current DVD
 and CD software.
     Important Notes:
HD DVD with high-definition content required for HD viewing. DVD with
standard definition content will upconvert to near HD quality. Viewing
high- definition content and up-converting DVD content may require an HDCP
capable DVI or HDMI input on your display device. 1080p capable display
required for viewing content in 1080p. Firmware update may be required for
some interactive features depending on content, which may also require an
always-on broadband internet connection. Some features may require
additional bandwidth. To take advantage of the web-enabled network content,
downloading and installing the latest firmware update (ver.2.3 for HD DVD
player models HD-XA1, HD-A1, and HD-D1; and ver.2.0 for HD DVD player
 models HD-XA2, HD-A2, HD-A2W, HD-D2, HD- A2C, and HD-A20) is required.
Web-enabled features will require an always on broadband connection along
with specific movie titles that include this form of content. MP3/WMA audio
files not supported. HDMI audio support for PCM only. Because HD DVD is a
new format that makes use of new technologies, certain disc, digital
connection and other compatibility and/or performance issues are possible.
This may, in rare cases, include disc freezing while accessing certain disc
features or functions, or certain parts of the disc not playing back or
operating as fully intended. If you experience such issues, please refer to
the FAQ sections of or for
information on possible work-around solutions or the availability of
firmware updates that may resolve your problem, or contact Toshiba Customer
Solutions. Some features subject to delayed availability. While Toshiba has
