Cookie Brigade Teams Up With Glad to Provide Dessert in the Desert
Freshly Baked Cookies Serve Up Warm Holiday Cheer to American Troops
FREDERIC, Wis., Nov. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Cookie Brigade today announced
that it has partnered with The Glad Products Company to deliver holiday
cheer -- in the form of homemade holiday cookies -- to American troops
deployed oversees. Cookie Brigade is a non-profit organization that
organizes local communities to bake cookies and dog biscuits that are sent
to deployed military personnel and canine teams serving the United States.
Cookie Brigade also sends homemade cookies to convalescing service men and
women and their families by way of the Fisher House Foundation, an
organization that shelters these families as they reunite with their
recovering soldier.
Launched in October 2006 by co-founders Susan Hager and Yolanda
Segovia, Cookie Brigade sends homemade cookies to some of the most remote
military outposts. Working closely with all US branches of the military and
the US War Dog Association, Cookie Brigade's corps of bakers has baked up
and shipped out more than 25,000 cookies to troops stationed throughout the
U.S., as well as Iraq, Kuwait, Afghanistan, South Korea, Africa and
Germany.
"Our mission is to remind our troops that we haven't forgotten about
them and that we are grateful for their sacrifices, risks and hardships
that they endure for our country," said Susan Hager. "Our cookies arrive in
remote locations, tasting as fresh as they do from the oven. Baking is
something that one does from the heart, and our cookies are a welcomed
heartfelt taste from home."
This summer, Cookie Brigade let Glad in on their secret for delivering
fresh cookies thousands of miles away -- the organization uses a
combination of GLAD(R) Press'n Seal(R) wrap and GladWare(R) containers to
preserve the freshness of the cookies. Glad has made a cash donation and
provides free Press'n Seal(R) and GladWare(R) products to Cookie Brigade to
help offset the organization's costs and keep the cookies fresh throughout
their journey.
"This really makes us feel good about our products and the value they
provide," said Jeff Halpern, marketing manager for The Glad Products
Company. "We're honored to be a part of such a wonderful cause."
