Corning - Connecting Europe to a Brighter Future

COPENHAGEN, February 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ --

- Corning Continues to be a Gold Sponsor at the Sixth Edition of the Annual FTTH Council Europe Conference

Corning Cable Systems GmbH & Co KG, part of Corning Incorporated's (NYSE: GLW) Telecommunications segment, will present its Ascend(TM) Multi Dwelling Unit (MDU) System at the Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) Council Europe Conference 2009 on Feb. 11-12, at the Bella Center in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Corning Cable Systems will demonstrate leadership in MDU deployments by displaying its Ascend(TM) MDU System on the Corning interactive exhibit (stand G10). Visitors will be able to speak with Corning Cable System's technical experts to learn first-hand how this innovative Evolant(R) product solution can expand opportunities for work and leisure to individuals, businesses, and communities.

Corning Cable Systems' Ascend(TM) MDU System enables fibre optic networks to be installed quickly and cost effectively into challenging high-rise apartment buildings and MDUs, which are one of the major residential architectures in Europe.

The exhibit will also include the Corning Cable Systems OptiRise(TM) Cable Assembly, which is designed to meet the requirements of MDUs where fast riser installation and customer connection are paramount.

"The OptiRise(TM) Cable Assembly is an ideal solution for indoor fibre deployment," said Dr Thomas Knuth, FTTH system and product portfolio manager, Corning Cable Systems, EMEA. "Our product allows fibres to be broken out at floor level without the need to access the cable jacket. The benefits of this innovative approach enable considerable advantages in the speed of deployment, while significantly decreasing the number of skilled installers needed to complete an installation successfully. In combination with Corning's ClearCurve(TM) fibre, this system combines the advantages of a 'plug & play' approach with excellent cable bend performance."

With its sophisticated Ascend(TM) MDU system, Corning continues to reinforce its commitment to providing innovative fibre-optic solutions to the industry and closing the digital divide in Europe.
