RICHMOND, Va., Aug. 6, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Craft + Estate, a member of The Winebow Group and a leading U.S. importer of wine, craft spirits, and sake, has been appointed the exclusive national importer of Kinahan's Irish Whiskey. Known as "the pioneer of Irish Whiskey," Kinahan's will be introduced to the U.S. market with two products, a blended Irish whiskey and a 10-year old single malt.
Kinahan's Irish Whiskey was founded on Trinity Street in Dublin by Daniel Kinahan in 1779. By 1845, the whiskey had received its first royal warrant and was so popular, and so widely imitated, that it became the very first whiskey to be trademarked. Jerry Thomas, considered to be the "father of American Mixology," recommended the use of Kinahan's over any other whiskey in his 1862 classic Jerry Thomas' Bartender Guide. Forced to close its doors after numerous economic hardships in the early 1900s, the iconic brand was revived in 2014 in its original Trinity Street location.
"We are thrilled to welcome Kinahan's to our family of brands," says Liz Mathews, Senior Vice President of Craft + Estate. "They have just the kind of history and integrity that embodies our philosophy. As the Irish whiskey category continues to grow, we are proud to introduce a brand of such definitive quality."
"We are in great hands with Craft + Estate," adds Zak Oganian, Kinahan's Managing Director. "We couldn't be happier with the dedication and enthusiasm of the team and are excited to join forces for the launch of this historic Irish whiskey."
Kinahan's Blended Irish Whiskey (SRP $40) is matured for at least six years in oak casks, non-chill filtered and bottled at 46 ABV, to recapture the style of Kinahan's renowned "L.L. Character," a quality named after Ireland's Lord Lieutenant, who in the early 19th century, was so impressed with the whiskey that he demanded specific barrels to be kept for his private collection, marking each cask with "L.L."
Kinahan's 10-Year Single Malt Whiskey (SRP $69) is matured for ten years in ex-Bourbon barrels. Each barrel is then carefully selected to capture the same L.L. quality.
