LOS ANGELES, Oct. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Founder of Reason Pictures and GOOD Magazine, Ben Goldhirsh today announces the expansion of the GOOD universe with GOOD Digital. This new endeavor will focus on extending the online presence of the Film and Magazine groups, create original programming and invest in early stage technology companies that are consistent with the GOOD brand. To lead this multi-million dollar venture, Goldhirsh -- Chief Executive Officer, GOOD -- has named Craig Shapiro as President of GOOD Digital. In this role, Shapiro will work in tandem with Reason Pictures and GOOD Magazine to formulate new media strategies and partnerships involving all interactive platforms, including Internet, mobile and television. In addition, Shapiro will identify new business opportunities for GOOD to invest in that complement GOOD's core assets. To date, GOOD has found initial success in its traditional media efforts. The company's film studio, Reason Pictures, successfully sold its first feature film, Son of Rambow, to Paramount Vantage -- selling for the highest amount of any film entered in the 2006 Sundance Film Festival. GOOD Magazine, heralded as "five stars out of five" by former Vice President Al Gore, has grown organically to a readership of 95,000 in only its first year. It has recently extended its distribution to all Whole Foods groceries across the country. "This announcement is particularly significant because it reflects our belief that the future of our business lies increasingly in new media," said Goldhirsh. "There are only a select number of individuals like Craig who truly understand this burgeoning landscape. He is one of the most forward thinking executives working in new media today who has been at the forefront of media and technology for almost a decade. As we continue to grow our business, it's important for us to have a unified strategy and seamless communication across our divisions. Craig is the perfect person to lead that charge." "I'm thrilled with the opportunity to lead this exciting new venture," said Craig Shapiro. "Ben is committed to making GOOD a key player in the new media landscape. With some of the most relevant and entertaining assets in film and print, GOOD has a unique, built-in advantage as it continues to transition into the interactive future. What's more, digital technology enables us to speak to a broad audience not necessarily reachable through film or print and allows us to potentially bring the GOOD brand and message to billions of people around the world. As such, I share Ben's excitement and believe that the opportunities ahead for this company are virtually limitless." Shapiro comes to GOOD from Helio, where he led content strategy and acquisition efforts. Prior to Helio, he served as Vice President at Proteus, a leading developer and publisher of web and mobile content. At Proteus, he spearheaded development of an exclusive partnership with ABC Television to launch their direct-to-consumer mobile portal and secured progressive agreements with prominent media and technology companies, such as AT&T Wireless, Discovery Channel, FOX, HBO, Motorola, NBC and Verizon Wireless. Shapiro also sits on the Board of Directors for the Mobile Marketing Association. About GOOD: GOOD is a multimedia company creating content at the intersection of entertainment and relevance across the print, film, web and live events platforms.
