ARLINGTON, Va., Aug. 18 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Cell phone use by commercial drivers is the subject of a survey released today by the American Transportation Research Institute (ATRI). Motor carriers and commercial drivers are encouraged to provide insight on how wireless communication devices are used in the trucking industry, including policies and procedures regarding cell phone use and the associated operational impacts.

"With the recent focus on driver distraction, this survey is a critical step in quantifying when and how cell phones, smart phones and other communication tools are used by commercial drivers," said Rebecca Brewster, ATRI's President & COO.
