PITTSBURGH, Sept. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- TimeSys(TM) Corporation and Cyclone
Microsystems today announced a partnership in which TimeSys Linux was named as
the exclusive Linux distribution for Cyclone's CompactPCI Intelligent I/O
Controllers. This partnership combines Cyclone's high bandwidth I/O
controllers with TimeSys' enhanced performance Linux enabling designers to
deliver complex solutions at reduced time-to-market and development costs.
"The increasing bandwidth requirements of OEM designers for
telecommunications, networking and control applications have made higher
throughput I/O processing a key enabler of system performance," said Cyclone's
President Joel Zackin. "TimeSys' expertise with optimizing performance with
Linux, with their innovations in network and processor reservation
technologies, add incredible value to our I/O controllers. Customers will
enjoy the direct benefit of enabling Linux for applications, while surpassing
the performance advantages they had with proprietary solutions."
"We're providing designers with a complete Linux solution for their
critical applications that surpasses performance requirements of proprietary
real-time operating systems at much lower entry and life-cycle costs, all in a
more easily adopted environment," said TimeSys CEO Larry Weidman. "Developers
using our joint solutions will see the immediate benefits of reduced cost for
development, realize a faster time to market, and recognize a longer product
life cycle because of the open nature of our Linux software, real-time and
network reservation extensions."
In the coming months, TimeSys and Cyclone will release several complete
solutions for the XScale(TM) based CompactPCI Intelligent I/O Controllers.
These bundled "out of the box" solutions will provide system designers a quick
and efficient solution path to implement complex applications such as
satellite communications, AIN processing and video networking. Cyclone's
CompactPCI Intelligent I/O Controllers are the perfect solution for
telecommunications and industrial equipment requiring an industrial
architecture, increased performance and high bandwidth throughput.
The TimeSys Linux solution provides developers with a full suite of tools
to enhance the application SDK for solid delivery as a solid supported
product, including an end-to-end embedded Linux development environment, a
complete Linux distribution with over 190 Linux packages and utilities, the
industry's lowest latency, fully preemptible Linux kernel, Linux cross-
platform and board hosted GNU toolchains, complete "to-the-edge of the board"
set of certified device drivers, user and API documentation, and loadable
kernel modules that convert TimeSys Linux into a fully featured Real-Time
Operating System (RTOS). Additional performance enhancing loadable kernel
modules, TimeSys Linux/CPU and TimeSys Linux/Net, provide patent-pending
capabilities for dynamic load handling and system overload protection.
TimeSys brings all the Linux tools needed for OEM's to create new value, such
as TimeStorm(TM), a Windows-hosted IDE with cross-platform capabilities;
TimeTrace(R), a Windows-hosted target platform for event tracing, timing
analysis and visualization tool; and TimeWiz(R), a Windows-hosted real-time
analysis and simulation tool.
TimeSys is a pioneer and leader in Embedded Linux and Java development
technologies. Its products allow design engineers to leverage the power,
flexibility and reliability of a new class of development tools for advanced
embedded systems for a variety of markets and applications, covering the
complete performance range from non-real-time to deterministic hard real-time,
using both open-source and proprietary technologies. TimeSys is considered
the top choice by systems architects for developing more robust, less
expensive, single API Linux solutions for embedded systems. TimeSys was the
first to create a reservation technology that guarantees system response, even
in overloaded systems. TimeSys solutions offer completely predictable and
fast response time performance. For more information about TimeSys, please
