Data Mining Video Contest: Winners Will Help Educate The Next Generation of Data Scientists
SAN DIEGO, July 9, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- A new type of data mining competition has been introduced to the academic data mining community. Salford Systems is hosting a data mining video contest for students, professors, post-doctoral candidates, and employees of academic institutions. Participants are required to submit a short video (10 minutes or less) illustrating how they are implementing the Salford Predictive Modeler on real-world data.
Contestants are given access to the commercial software at no charge for a 6-month period in order to complete a high-quality data mining project for the competition. Submissions but be received by October 15, 2013.
The video must include:
- The data mining challenge
- The solution
- Results and explanation
- Written transcript of key video content (word-for-word unnecessary, paragraph format acceptable)
Suggested data mining applications include: financial (banking, insurance, risk management, etc.); biostatistics/healthcare/pharmaceuticals; scientific research (non-healthcare); environmental; targeted marketing; industrial/manufacturing; education; social media; advertising; retail; search engine optimization; telecommunications; e-commerce; music, recommendation systems; and contest wins.
The grand prize winner will receive a $500 Amazon gift card and publication on the Salford Systems website. Ten first place winners will receive a $100 Amazon gift card and publication on the website, and the first 500 valid submissions will receive a $5 Amazon gift card.
