Summit to Promote the Adoption of Quality Principles and Continuous

Improvement Initiatives by Higher Education Institutions and State Agencies

    FAIRFAX, Va., Sept. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Datatel Inc., the premier provider

 it is collaborating with Coastal Carolina University to host the first-annual
 Carolina Conference on Quality.  The conference, which will take place at the
 Ocean Reed Resort, (formerly the Martinique Resort) in Myrtle Beach, South
 Carolina, on September 29 - October 1, is designed to heighten the awareness
 of quality principles and encourage greater adoption of continuous improvement
 doctrines by state agencies and higher learning institutions.

     The conference will offer both higher education and state agency tracks,
 allowing participants to focus on the areas of greater concern to their
 particular institutions.
     The conference presenters come from a wide range of backgrounds -- from
 government and state agencies to higher education institutions and information
 technology companies.  The conference will open with an address on the
 National Baldridge Quality Award by Barry Diamondstone, Deputy Director of the
 Baldrige National Quality Program at the National Institute of Standards and
 Technology (NIST) -- the federal agency that administers the Malcolm Baldrige
 Award for the U.S. Department of Commerce.
     Charles W. Sorensen, Chancellor of the University of Wisconsin-Stout will
 provide the conference's keynote address.  The University of Wisconsin-Stout
 holds the distinction of being the first higher education institution to
 receive a site visit for the National Baldridge Award in Education.
     In addition to participating in the program tracks, conference attendees
 will also have the opportunity to take part in a comprehensive pre-conference
 workshop.  The two-day session for academic and organizational leaders will be
 led by Ken Rice, an experienced consultant in the area of quality initiatives,
 and a faculty member at Datatel's Center for Excellence in Education
     Centered on principles of the Malcolm Baldridge National Quality Award
 Education Criteria for Performance Excellence, Ken Rice's workshop will focus
 on gaining a greater understanding of quality improvement techniques and
 processes.  Participants will learn how to define, understand and prepare
 their institutions to transition toward learning-centered and quality-focused
     World Business Review, a television program that airs on numerous public
 TV stations and other broadcasting channels throughout the U.S., will be on-
 site throughout the conference to cover the event and profile Datatel as a
 champion of quality-oriented initiatives in higher education.
