DeAnn Friedholm Joins the Children's Defense Fund: Named Executive Director of CDF Texas

    WASHINGTON, July 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Children's Defense Fund (CDF)
 President and Founder Marian Wright Edelman recently announced the appointment
 of DeAnn Friedholm to Executive Director of CDF Texas. In this position,
 Friedholm will oversee and manage operations of CDF's three Texas offices in
 Houston, Austin, and McAllen, with a focus on improving the well-being of
 disadvantaged children.
     Friedholm joins CDF from Friedholm Consulting, a business she began five
 years ago to advise health care providers, state and local governments, and
 advocates on issues of health care access, systems, and financing. Prior to
 consulting for clients like the Texas March of Dimes and Americaid, she served
 as the Texas Medicaid Director and was appointed Commissioner of the Texas
 Health and Human Services Commission.

 efforts of our Texas offices," said Edelman. "Her extensive knowledge and
 understanding of health care and human services systems and her dedication to

     An active member in her community and professional organizations,
 Friedholm is co-chair of the Texas Children's Health Coalition. She also
 serves as chairwoman of the Barbara Jordan Congressional Fellows Committee in
 Washington, D.C.  She has received with numerous awards for her work including
 the Texas Children's Hospital Association's Golden Bootie Award for her
 tireless efforts on behalf of children.
     Friedholm attended the University of Texas at Austin where she earned a
 Masters of Public Affairs from the LBJ School of Public Affairs and a Bachelor
 of Arts in government.
