Deloitte & Touche Recognizes the Fifty Fastest Growing Technology Companies In New York City, Westchester County and Rockland County

    NEW YORK, Oct. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- The fastest growing technology companies
 in New York City, Westchester County and Rockland County have been announced
 by Deloitte & Touche LLP's New York Technology Fast 50 program, with those
 companies named averaging a five-year revenue growth percentage of
 2147 percent. At a recent awards ceremony unveiling its annual rankings, more
 than 200 attendees joined Deloitte & Touche to celebrate the companies'
 achievement in today's business climate.
     "Given the state of today's turbulent economy, especially in our locale,
 it is important to recognize the successful technology companies in the New
 York area that are growing rapidly and are on a path toward success," said

     Fast 50 winners are selected based on the percentage of growth in revenues
 from 1997 to 2001.  To be considered, Fast 50 entrants must have met the
 following criteria:
      * Have revenues of at least $50,000 in 1997 and at least $1,000,000
        in 2001.
      * Be public or private companies, headquartered in New York City,
        Westchester and Rockland Counties.  Subsidiaries and divisions are not
        eligible, unless they have some public ownership and are separately
        traded.
      * Be a technology company, defined as follows:
        - Owns proprietary technology that contributes to a significant portion
          of the company's operating revenues.
        - Devotes a significant proportion of revenues to research and
          development of technology
 
     Trends Among the 2002 New York Fast 50 Companies
     In keeping with recent years, the software industry was well represented
 in the New York Fast 50, with a total of fourteen companies.  Additionally,
 there were eight communications/networking companies, nine in the life
 sciences field and seven Internet-based companies.
     Eight companies are appearing for the fourth consecutive year, while seven
 are on the list for the third years our of the last four.  Twenty four
 companies are on the list for the first time.
     40 percent of New York Fast 50 companies are privately held, as compared
 to 44 percent in 2001 and 60 percent in 2000.
