LOS ANGELES, March 29 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- A jury awarded a woman a $395,000 verdict in a medical malpractice case against Dr. Morad Tourah (aka Morad H. Akhondzadeh, M.D.), a board-certified surgeon, who after realizing he botched her surgery, drove the woman in his own automobile to County-USC and dropped her off in front of the emergency room.
Dr. Tourah (aka Dr. Morad H. Akhondzadeh), performed a routine gallbladder operation on Medi-Cal recipient Juana Magnaye, 59, at California Hospital Medical Center in Los Angeles on April 13, 2007.
When Magnaye returned to the hospital complaining of pain, Dr. Tourah (aka Dr. Akhondzadeh) performed a scan. The results showed an obstruction of the common bile duct caused by the clips Dr. Tourah (aka Dr. Akhondzadeh) had placed on the duct when he cut it, mistaking it for the cystic duct, which was what he should have cut and clipped.
Rather than treating Magnaye, Dr. Tourah (aka Dr. Akhondzadeh) personally drove her to County-USC and dropped her off in front of the emergency room.
"During the trial Dr. Tourah testified that he was taking Ms. Magnaye to a County-USC doctor, who was his mentor," says Los Angeles plaintiff attorney Jeffrey Wolf, a partner at Pocrass, Heimanson & Wolf, LLP. "Obviously the jury agreed with us that if Dr. Tourah did nothing wrong, then why didn't he bring Mrs. Magnaye's medical records or the scan results with them to the County-USC? Why would he write in his last note at California Hospital that Mrs. Magnaye was feeling better and he was discharging her home?"
Wolf continues, "And, why did he drop Ms. Magnaye off in front of the ER, telling her, per Ms. Magnaye, to tell the ER that she'd been discharged from California Hospital Medical Center two days ago?"
The Los Angeles County Superior Court jury deliberated two days in Juana Magnaye vs. Morad H. Akhondzadeh, M.D., also known as Morad Tourah, M.D., (Case #BC393104), coming back with a $395,000 verdict for Ms. Magnaye.
