DOE Awards WSI Contract for Protective Services at Savannah River Site
AIKEN, S.C., Oct. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- WSI is pleased to announce that the Department of Energy (DOE) has awarded WSI a new contract to continue providing protective services at the Savannah River Site, a key nuclear facility near Aiken, S.C. The contract has an initial value of $989 million over ten years, which includes a five-year base period and two option periods of three and two years.
Performance requirements of the contract include:
- Safeguarding Special Nuclear Material.
- Protecting vital facilities against sabotage.
- Developing and maintaining procedures and orders governing protective force operations.
- Securing and maintaining safe operations by staffing security posts, patrolling designated areas, and providing law enforcement operations.
- Maintaining aviation (helicopter) operations.
- Providing tactical response to security emergencies.

Savannah River Site
The Savannah River Site (www.srs.gov) is a 310-square-mile DOE industrial facility located in Aiken, Allendale and Barnwell Counties in South Carolina. SRS is dedicated to environmental management cleanup, developing and deploying technologies to support the cleanup mission, providing capability for supporting the enduring nuclear weapons stockpile, and processing and storing nuclear materials in support of U.S. nuclear non-proliferation efforts. DOE's Office of Environmental Management is responsible for cleanup missions at SRS and the Savannah River National Laboratory. The National Nuclear Security Administration, a semi-autonomous agency within DOE, is responsible for supporting the nuclear weapons stockpile programs and non-proliferation activities at SRS. The site is approximately 23 miles southeast of Augusta, Georgia, and 20 miles south of Aiken, South Carolina, the two closest population centers.
