Joel Jenkins, who commissioned the poll for his Internet company, www.tmarktees.com, stated that "Dog or Other Pet" is the paws-down winner in our Most Normal Family Member poll." Jenkins went on to say that "while most people agree that 'normal' is a relative term, these poll results show that in most families, the attitude is, 'Normal is relative, just not MY relatives.'"
According to Jenkins, "Not only do these results reinforce the belief that pets, and especially dogs, are bona fide family members, but they're also considered to be stabilizing forces of normalcy within the family unit.
The poll choice, "Me," was a distant second place at 12% and Jenkins suspects that "these responses probably came from people without pets."
The online poll is now open to the general public. This is an anonymous, unscientific poll and no registration or email address is required.
