Don L. Blankenship, Chairman and CEO of Massey Energy Company, Will Discuss Need for More Coal Mining at the National Press Club on July 22
WASHINGTON, July 9 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Don L. Blankenship, chairman and chief executive officer of Massey Energy Company, will address a National Press Club luncheon on Thursday, July 22, 2010. Blankenship will speak on the need to increase surface mining of coal in order to meet the nation's energy requirements.

Blankenship joined Massey Energy Company in 1982, working first in its Rawl Sales & Processing Co. subsidiary. He rose through leadership positions in other subsidiaries until reaching his present positions in November 2000. Blankenship also served as the company's president from November 2000 through November 2008.
Massey Energy Company is the fourth largest coal company in the United States. An explosion at the company's Upper Big Branch Mine in Montcoal, West Virginia on April 5, 2010 killed 29 miners, making it the deadliest coal mine explosion in the United States in forty years.
The National Press Club luncheon will begin promptly at 12:30 p.m. Blankenship's remarks will begin just after 1:00 p.m., followed by a question-and-answer session. Cost of luncheon admission is $17 for National Press Club members, $28 for their guests and $35 for general admission.
