England have exited major tournaments six times on the dreaded penalties including three times at the European Championships in 1996, 2004 and 2012.

All bets, including each way bets, whether in shops or online would be refunded as cash. Betfred are also currently a top price of 9/1 for Roy Hodgson's men to be victorious in France.

The bookmaker has also signed up Stuart Pearce to be a pundit during Euro 2016 as well as appearing in an advert to promote their penalty shoot-out offer.

Stuart Pearce famously missed a penalty in the shoot-out against Germany in Italia 90 and then scored in England's only ever spot kick showdown success in Euro 96 against Spain.

Speaking at the launch of Betfred's Euro offer the former England man said,

"I'm very excited as any Englishman and we've got a lot of good young players in the squad. I think like the Premier League it will be a wide open tournament so England are not out of the mix. At least with Betfred's offer and the unthinkable happens again you get your money back."

In Betfred's new advert to be shown on their in house channel and on social media Stuart Pearce had no problem playing up to his penalty miss in 1990.

The former left back added,

"Everyone reminds me of that penalty miss so Betfred are now just among a big list of people that keep reminding me. Listen it's part and parcel of the game and at least I scored in the shoot-out in Euro 96. I think my reaction then told it all."
