Dot Eco LLC Announces Senior Environmentalist to Join Executive Leadership in Effort to Secure and Define the .ECO Top-level Domain
Jim Dufour, Scripps Institution of Oceanography, will oversee environmental outreach for the proposed top-level domain
SAN DIEGO, Aug. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Dot Eco LLC (www.supportdoteco.com), the group backed by Al Gore, the Alliance For Climate Protection, Sierra Club and Surfrider Foundation, announced today its first of a series of key appointments that Jim Dufour, Associate Director at Scripps Institute of Oceanography, will join the initiative as the group's Chief Environmental Officer.
"We are delighted that Jim has accepted our challenge to fully define the future of the .ECO environmental domain. Having spent more than 30 years at the forefront of ocean and environmental research, Jim's scientific perspective and relationships are invaluable," said Fred Krueger, CEO and Minor Childers, President of Dot Eco LLC.
The new role of Chief Environmental Officer is critical in the formation and development of what could be a new environmental Internet. People can be assured that the scientific community is represented on the .ECO top level domain and that funds will be directed to areas of research that have a direct impact on solving climate change. Jim Dufour's unimpeachable integrity and tireless dedication working to protect the environment will help to influence this important moment in environmental history.
"Dot Eco will provide a critically-needed source of funding for climate protection initiatives and scientific research. Our hope is that it will also define a forum for trustworthy and concise scientific information for all to see," said Jim Dufour.
Jim Dufour is the Associate Director of the Instrument Development Group at Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego. Since 1982 Jim has developed and produced a myriad of oceanographic instruments, most recently the Spray Autonomous Glider and SOLO. His contributions have directly improved our understanding of the physical properties of the ocean and patterns of ocean variability.
.ECO will be established for individuals to express their support for environmental causes, for companies to promote their environmental initiatives, and for environmental organizations to maintain their websites in a namespace that is more relevant to their core missions. By charter, a majority of the profits of the .ECO initiative will be distributed to support environmental causes.
