Dr. R. Scott Colglazier, Author, Minister and Progressive Spiritual Voice, Celebrates Release of Latest Book
LOS ANGELES, Feb. 6, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Author and progressive spiritual leader, Dr. R. Scott Colglazier, is pleased to announce the release of his latest book, A Dictionary of Faith for Open-Hearted, Open-Minded People, an insightful and inspiring look at the Christian vocabulary through the eyes of a 21st-century person of faith.
"This book may well infuriate Christian fundamentalists and baffle evangelical Christians," stated Dr. Colglazier, who serves as Senior Minister to the historic First Congregational Church of Los Angeles (FCCLA). "I am convinced that religious language must be transformed if it is to be relevant in our world today. A person may well decide not to be religious, and I can respect that. But he or she should at least know that there is an alternative; a contemporary, progressive and open-minded way of using the language of faith."
Recently appointed as the first Christian clergyperson to serve on the board of the Los Angeles Museum of the Holocaust – the oldest such museum in the United States, Dr. Colglazier has long been influential in the area of interfaith dialogue. Throughout his career, he has always been an outspoken advocate for human and civil rights, and has dedicated much of his efforts to creating a greater understanding between people of all faiths and walks-of-life. While serving as Senior Minster at University Christian Church in Fort Worth, Texas, he was instrumental in brokering a peaceful agreement for that school system during a highly-charged period of racial protest. He was also honored to offer a Christian response to a major speech given by Nobel Prize recipient, Elie Wiesel, as part of the Gates of Chai Lecture Series held at Texas Christian University.
Dr. Colglazier earned his Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry degrees at Christian Theological Seminary in Indianapolis, and has served some of the great churches in America, including University Christian Church, the Riverside Church in New York City, and now First Congregational Church of Los Angeles. Throughout his career he has served on a variety of nonprofit Boards, including Brite Divinity School, Texas Christian University, and Planned Parenthood, to name a few. A national pulpit voice with a positive message, he has been featured on, among others, The Today Show and CBS's The Early Show. Other books include Touchstones: Spiritual Awakenings in Everyday Life, A Larger Hope, and his best-selling Christmas book, A Winter Name for God. His is also the founder of a popular spirituality blog titled Take a Breath, and can be heard from the pulpit of FCCLA most every Sunday.
