Driving 4 Life Mourns Loss of Hero And Founder Bruce Edwards; Campaign to Cure ALS will Continue on in His Honor
CAMBRIDGE, Mass., April 9 /PRNewswire/ -- The Driving 4 Life campaign and
the ALS Therapy Development Foundation (ALSTDF) are deeply saddened by the
untimely loss of dear friend Bruce Edwards. We are honored to have known Bruce
and to have observed the dignity and strength he possessed in his battle
against ALS.
Driving 4 Life is extremely grateful for the support from both Bruce and
Marsha Edwards, who chose to support ALSTDF's research to slow, arrest, and
cure ALS by creating the campaign that has collectively raised nearly
$1 million to date. Everyone who has been a part of Driving 4 Life and the
effort to fight ALS -- especially Bruce and Marsha Edwards, Jeff and Kim
Julian, Tom and Hilary Watson and all friends and families affected by ALS --
has helped ALSTDF continue effectively running the leading drug discovery
laboratory for today's ALS patients.
Today, we remain focused and committed to our goal to slow, arrest, and
cure ALS. "Bruce was one of those rare men who truly lived life on his own
terms," said James Allen Heywood, Founder and Director of the ALS Therapy
Development Foundation. "It was a privilege to get to know him and the love
and response he inspired in others was obvious to everyone. His presence and
his smile will be missed by us all."
About ALSTDF

which runs the leading drug discovery program for ALS, has collaborated with
30 for-profit companies and academic institutions to perform advanced
investigations of more than 60 near-patient drugs in its laboratories. Since
the launch of its in vivo drug screening program in 2001, ALSTDF has
discovered two novel therapeutic targets in ALS and identified two lead drug
candidates.
