NUREMBERG, Germany, Sept. 14, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Can a thriller set in Rio de Janeiro contribute to sustainable peace?

The UN Peace Day website quotes UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon : "I urge everyone, between now and 21 September, to think about how they can contribute. Let us work together to ensure that the Road from Rio leads us to sustainable development, sustainable peace… and a secure future for all."

War over drugs, abuse of power, vigilante justice, and the temptation to turn a blind eye are the themes in Edith Parzefall's thriller Strays of Rio, to be released as ebook by MuseitUp Publishing on September 21, 2012. Strays of Rio explores the question whether the cycle of violence can be broken. Center stage take a gang of street kids attacked by recreational killers. When the police take no action, a witness vows to purge Rio of the ruthless death squad. Her pursuit of justice spirals into a violent struggle to survive. Desperate, she enlists a drug lord, while the police is launching a new attempt to cleanse Rio of drug-traffickers in preparation for the Soccer World Cup and the Olympic Games.

Several attempts at cease-fire among the warring parties fail for various reasons. Fervor for justice, greed, and relentless pugnacity range high among them. There is hope though. A seed of peace may grow in the post-conflict world of Strays of Rio.
