Elmic Systems Integrates Voyager IPv6 and Mobile IPv6 Products With OSE Real-Time Operating System
SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Elmic Systems, a leading supplier of embedded Internet protocols, today announced that the company has integrated their Voyager IPv6 and Voyager Mobile IPv6 products with Enea Embedded Technology's OSE real-time operating system (RTOS). Elmic's Voyager IPv6 makes it easy to add secure Internet connectivity, advanced addressing, routing, and network auto-configuration capabilities to embedded systems running the OSE RTOS. Voyager Mobile IPv6 allows an Internet-enabled mobile host such as a cell phone, PDA, package delivery truck, passenger jet, etc., to send and receive IPv6 packets using its global IPv6 home address regardless of its current point of attachment to the Internet. This unchanging global IPv6 home address is a global network ID enabling "always on" Internet connections, as well as push technologies where the network initiates the connection to the mobile host. Elmic System's Voyager IPv6 product is an embedded protocol stack written exclusively for next generation devices. IPv6 addresses the shortcomings of IP version 4 by introducing many improvements. These include a vastly larger number of available IP addresses, stronger security and encryption, plug-and-play auto-configuration and routing enhancements, among others. Elmic's Voyager product is a dual protocol stack that includes both IPv4 and IPv6 modes. With this method, system designers can choose to utilize the next generation protocol, or simply switch IPv6 functionality off and use IPv4. "Elmic's IPv6 and mobile IPv6 protocols are ideal for adding Internet connectivity to a broad range of OSE-based communications and industrial control devices," said Vance Hilderman, Vice President of Enea Embedded Technology. "Together, OSE and Elmic Systems' protocols provide an excellent platform for developing and deploying Internet-enabled devices, particularly those requiring high availability and reliability, enhanced security, and mobility." OSE is a fast, reliable, small footprint real-time operating system for communication systems that demand the highest quality in Internet-enabled embedded software. It is optimized for distributed, fault-tolerant systems and offers advanced capabilities such as dynamic download of applications during runtime, advanced memory management and memory protection, multicore support, Bluetooth, Java and graphics. OSE's fully preemptive kernel provides low latency and high rates of data throughput. It also features an application- and device-independent message-passing protocol that makes it easy to develop distributed applications for heterogeneous multiprocessor systems. OSE supports all ARM architectures and a majority of DSP architectures. "Enea has created an exemplary OS that demands the highest quality Internet enabling software and Elmic's Voyager products are a perfect match. Elmic Systems created an easy to use interface for the OSE RTOS that allows embedded systems developers to quickly mesh the speed and performance of our IPv6 protocols with the OSE high availability real-time kernel. This tightly integrated environment helps our mutual customers produce outstanding, cutting edge products while allowing a shorter development cycle," said Kevin McGuire, President of Elmic Systems-USA.
