Fund-raising Gala slated for November 18, 2004
MIAMI BEACH, Fla., April 6 /PRNewswire/ -- The Latin Entertainment Industry Group for City of Hope announced today that it has selected Emilio and Gloria Estefan as the 2004 Spirit of Life(R) Award honorees. This award will mark another instance in which the couple has received recognition together as a couple for their crowning achievements in both the Latin and non-Hispanic entertainment industries. Since the inception of the Latin Entertainment Industry group, Estefan Enterprises has played a significant supportive role for City of Hope, the world-renowned biomedical research facility. The award will be presented at a star-studded, gala dinner on November 18, 2004. Proceeds from the event will benefit City of Hope's research, treatment and education programs for cancer and other life-threatening diseases. Launched in 2002, the Latin Entertainment Industry plays a pivotal role in supporting the innovative programs at City of Hope Cancer Center, so that the doctors, researchers and scientists can find a cure for cancer and other life-threatening diseases. Since its inception, the Latin Entertainment Industry made a commitment to create and support this campaign. BMG Latin, EMI Latin, Sony, Universal, Univision Music Group, Warner/Chappell Music Inc. and Warner Music Latina joined forces in this effort. The founding members decided it was pertinent to broaden the industry group to include representatives from other facets of the Latin entertainment industry and overall business community in South Florida. "It is with great pride and reverence that we accept this honor," said Emilio. "As an executive board member for the Latin Entertainment Industry for City of Hope, I am intimately aware of the important work of this organization and that people in Miami, and everywhere, benefit from its mission and resources. Gloria and I are pleased to be a part of this new movement by our fellow community members to support an organization that provides lifesaving therapies to Latinos." "Emilio and Gloria exemplify the meaning of The Spirit of Life Award with their outstanding presence in the music and entertainment industry and their steadfast commitment to working with the community. Both are well respected and considered icons in the industry," said Julian Linares, chair of the Latin Entertainment Industry Group. "We are very proud of Emilio and Gloria, and so happy that we are able to recognize their achievements and honor them in this way."
