Enjoy Herbs in Winter by Preserving Them with Olive Oil
BOHEMIA, N.Y., Aug. 21, 2014 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Although Bellucci Premium may not specialize in herbs but instead in the rich flavors in their Tuscan olive oils, the producer of olive oil knows that consumers use its oils with their own homegrown vegetables and herbs.
August is primetime for vegetables and herbs to start coming out of a garden very quickly. Most plants have bloomed and blossomed for months, and now is the time to enjoy what consumers have grown with their own hands.
Whether an expert or a beginner, there may be more vegetables and herbs coming out of a garden than a family will use. This may not seem to be an issue, but there is, however, one problem that many face as the months start to turn cold: how to keep the extra vegetables and herbs fresh for winter.
One of the best ways to preserve fresh herbs like basil and oregano is to use olive oil. First, let the herbs thoroughly air-dry. Mix one cup of the herb with one cup of olive oil and then puree with ¼ teaspoon of salt. Refrigerate overnight (or six hours) and then stir the mix together. Now, for the rest of the winter season you can enjoy fresh herbs by simply adding a tablespoon of this mixture to any sauce or dish.
Susan Testa, Director of Sales and Marketing for high-quality olive oil producer Bellucci Premium, says, "We want our consumers to not just enjoy our olive oil but to be able to enjoy it all year round. With so many herbs that are dependent on the season, it can be hard to enjoy fresh herbs every winter. Luckily, olive oil can help you with that too."
Bellucci offers three different types of oil, including an organic option, with a mild peppery flavor and fruity undertones that will satisfy any palate. Bellucci Premium Toscano extra virgin olive oil uses olives that are grown on the beautiful landscapes of Tuscany, and maintained by 3rd and 4th generation farmers. The third type of oil Bellucci produces is the finest 100% Italian extra virgin olive oil, grown in many different regions of Italy.
