CHICAGO, Feb. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- InStep Software, LLC, a leading provider
of real-time software products and solutions, announced today that Eskom
Holdings, one of the world's largest utilities, has licensed InStep's PRiSM
software as the real-time condition monitoring application for monitoring
Eskom's generation assets. Eskom is South Africa's national electric utility
and is one of the top 13 utilities in the world in terms of generation
capacity and one of the top 9 in terms of sales.
InStep's PRiSM software will monitor Eskom's critical generation assets at
the Duvha Power Station to provide early warning equipment failure
identification, performance monitoring, and problem analysis. PRiSM uses
sophisticated data mining and pattern recognition technology for real-time
early identification of equipment problems that can often lead to unexpected
downtime or efficiency losses.
InStep software President John Kalanik says, "Eskom is faced with a
diminishing reserve generation margin and the criticality of online generation
is very high. We are confident that the implementation of our PRiSM software
will prove to be quite beneficial in addition to the other initiatives that
Eskom has identified in dealing with this great challenge. InStep is very
pleased to be selected for such an important project."
Eskom Holdings generates, transports and distributes approximately 95% of
South Africa's electricity -- making up 60% of the total electricity consumed
on the African continent. Eskom is the world's thirteenth-largest power
utility in terms of generating capacity, ranks ninth in terms of sales, and
boasts the world's largest dry-cooling power station. For more information,
