Europe's Most Prestigious Gas Conference Announces Vienna Programme
LONDON, May 4, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --
Celebrating its 27th year, Europe's longest-running event for senior European gas industry professionals now announces the programme themes for 2012.
The European Autumn Gas Conference was originally created to bring together gas industry leaders who wanted to discuss and review the previous year's business activity, and has since become Europe's barometer for the direction of the commercial gas industry. Launched in 1986, the event now reaches into the heart of European gas matters with pace-setting agendas that welcome opinion-leaders across Europe.
Gavin Sutcliffe, Head of Content at event organiser, dmg :: events (UK) Ltd, explains that the event has a unique place at the very heart of Europe's energy industry;
"The next European Autumn Gas Conference travels to Vienna at a time when the industry is bracing itself for unprecedented change. Policy makers and regulators drive targets to continue reducing emissions whilst supporting the increased use of renewable energy by governments - yet persist with their unclear pathway for gas: a fuel that remains both the cleanest and most efficient of all fossil fuels, and which clearly has a major role to play in the pragmatic delivery of emissions reductions targets in a cost-effective manner.
The 2012 agenda will reflect this urgent need to understand and tackle the changes that are coming and, once again, Europe's gas leaders will be there to make their mark and remain ahead of the game."
This year the programme will focus on core issues impacting Europe's commercial gas business, including:
Can we see Sustainable Long-Term Demand for Gas -or has the Subsidised Renewables Agenda killed it off? As Europe remains the world's largest market for gas, so where is the next wave of demand going to come from? Will there be strong interest in gas/LNG as a transportation fuel? Are we facing the possible "death of the gas industry" in Europe as decarbonisation efforts remain focused on subsidised renewables and coal increases in competitiveness (despite carbon emissions drives)?
Is Europeadequately or over-supplied with gas? Has Europe become the new 'sink' for gas of last resort, or is it still a target for gas suppliers from everywhere? What will the impact be of 'new' suppliers of LNG on the market: Mozambique, Australia, USA/Canada, Arctic Russia? Will the new pipeline routes saturate the market? In short are we "spoilt for choice or just spoilt?"
Have Europe's hubs now established price dominance? A vital session especially to energy traders, this session will focus special attention on hubs, not least the Central European Gas Hub, based in Vienna. Has the tipping point now been reached for hub liquidity or is it still patchy in Europe as a whole? Is there a 'European Henry Hub' in the making or will their relevance be more localised? Why does the NBP continue to remain the most liquid of hubs?
Financing & Investing in the European Gas Business Model. European gas investment has struggled against a series of strong hostile policy headwinds and weak or uncertain price signals. As the oil vs. hub vs. hybrid price indexation debate sees the outcome settle down through price reviews and arbitrations in the next few years, will price signals turn into better investment signals?
The Executive Leadership Panel Discussion, now a lynchpin and key attraction of the conference, will present a panel of internationally-renowned gas leaders on the stage. This exclusive debate brings together a wealth of expertise from across the globe.
The EAGC 2012 takes place in Vienna, Austria, on the 13th and 14th November, and will bring together Europe's gas business leaders, including representation from major global gas companies, government, associations and regulatory bodies. It is the first time the EAGC has visited Austria.
