First Day of School for Arizona Virtual Academy

New students can still enroll in state's largest virtual charter school

PHOENIX, Aug. 4 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Arizona kids are preparing to head back to school, but for students at the Arizona Virtual Academy (AZVA) their first day back to school is only a click away.  Today, thousands of students enrolled in Arizona's premier virtual charter school will log on back to school for the official start of their 2010-2011 school year.  AZVA serves students in grades K-12 from all across the state.  It is the largest virtual charter school in Arizona.

"The back to school period is one of the most exciting times of the year," remarked AZVA Head of School Megan Henry.  "Our students are eager to start learning again and their enthusiasm is a great sign we are ready for another successful year."

AZVA students made tremendous academic gains in 2009-2010 resulting in record setting course passing rates and higher percentages of students meeting or exceeding the standards on AIMS, especially in the areas of reading and writing. As a result, AZVA made Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) in 2009-2010 for the sixth time in the past seven years.  In July, the Arizona State Board for Charter Schools renewed AZVA's for another 20 years based on the school's excellent record, innovation with technology, and overall commitment to student success.

Earlier this year, AZVA was named a "Center for Excellence" winner by Elluminate, Inc., a leading provider of online teaching, learning and collaboration solutions.

AZVA is popular for its highly individualized approach to learning.  The school uses the award-winning curriculum developed by K12, the nation's largest provider of online school programs for students in kindergarten through high school.

K12 provides courses in English/Language Arts, Math, Science, History, Music, and Art.  The K12 High School program offers students a catalog of more than 130 core, elective, AP®, and world language courses.  Students also receive shipments of materials including textbooks, math and science materials, and art and music supplies, bringing school right to their doorstep.

AZVA's exceptional technology enables Arizona students from all corners of the state to attend this high quality public school. Students receive instruction, support and oversight from highly skilled, state-licensed teachers, and parents or responsible adults serve as learning coaches.

AZVA is a tuition-free public school open to all families in Arizona.  The school is still accepting enrollment applicants and is hosting multiple events for students and teachers, as well as online showcases and information sessions.  For a complete list of events and information on enrollment, visit www.K12.com/azva.
