First National moved up from the eleventh largest in the 2008 rankings to fifth largest in the 2009 rankings despite a severe economic downturn and very difficult capital market conditions. This ranking represented a 40.1% increase in new business volume while many other financial services firms were either contracting or failing entirely.

The Top 25 list recognizes only those independent leasing and finance firms that are not affiliated or owned by another institution. The rankings are based upon primarily new business volume.  However First National also ranked as #2 in overall employee productivity with a new business volume of $7.455 million per employee.
