First Presbyterian Church of Ft. Lauderdale Announces the Grand Opening of The Harbor at the Hoch Youth Center Sunday, September 8th from 11:15 a.m. to 1 p.m.
FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla., Aug. 19, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- A dream that has been more than a dozen years in the making will become a reality at 11:15 a.m. on Sunday, September 8, 2013. First Presbyterian Church of Ft. Lauderdale invites the public to attend the grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony of its brand new facility, The Harbor at the Hoch Youth Center (321 SE 15th Avenue, Ft. Lauderdale).
Spanning 3,000 square feet, on two floors, The Harbor at the Hoch Youth Center is located on the First Presbyterian Church campus in the heart of downtown Ft. Lauderdale in the quaint, picturesque Colee Hammock neighborhood. This newly renovated space will provide a safe and welcoming environment for teens in 6th to 12th grade to socialize, study and interact. Offering after-school and weekend hours, activities will include sports, video games, Bible study sessions, movies, tutoring and more under the guidance of onsite volunteers and staff.
"We are so excited to introduce The Harbor, as the youth refer to it, to the Ft. Lauderdale community and provide a springboard for today's youth to become tomorrow's leaders," explains Ben Sorensen, Associate Pastor at First Presbyterian Church of Ft. Lauderdale. "Statistics prove that youth who participate in programs that foster a sense of community, healthy socialization and empowerment are infinitely more likely to become stronger leaders."
With that information in mind, The Harbor at the Hoch Youth Center will operate under a three-pillar format designed to 'empower, grow and lead' the youth who participate. "We want to empower them so they can reach their highest potential in a safe, healthy, faith-filled educational and recreational environment. We also want them to grow through supervised activities, tutoring, games, Bible study sessions and more," says Sorensen. "And lastly, we want to teach them to lead by fostering a sense of true community, healthy socialization and empowerment."
The Harbor at the Hoch Youth Center started with a donation and a dream. First Presbyterian Church acquired the building in 2001 with an incredibly generous gift from Dr. Clifford Hoch. Previously used as an office building, church leadership envisioned converting this charming historic home into a dynamic youth center and renovations began in 2011.
All are welcome to attend the grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony of The Harbor at the Hoch Youth Center on Sunday, September 8, 2013 from 11:15 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Tours of the facility as well as refreshments will be available. In conjunction, First Presbyterian Church will also host its annual Rally Day on September 8, 2013 from 11:15 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. for those who are interested in learning about all the programming available throughout the 2013/2014 year. No RSVP is required.
