DRAPER, Utah, July 11, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Flexpoint Sensor Systems, Inc. (OTCQB: FLXT) today announced that they are in talks with one of the world's largest industrial firms over a security mat that uses Bend Sensors® to track and differentiate traffic flow in and out of buildings or venues. The S&P 500 company is a world leader in industrial products.
Early testing on the mat sensor has shown that it can differentiate between foot traffic and other things like wheels on a dolly. Weight measurements can also be fine-tuned to provide another layer of data for identification and security purposes. The mat could tell, for instance, if someone walking into a building was carrying an unusually heavy load.
Flexpoint is being represented in these discussions by an industry insider with extensive experience. There are some 12,000 government properties in the U.S. and hundreds of thousands of venues and other heavy traffic facilities that could use this technology.
"This is a concept we have been developing for some time now that holds a lot of promise," said Flexpoint lead engineer David Beck. "The potential market for this mat could be very big, so we are very excited to receive interest from a company of this caliber."
The mat could be used in everything from retail stores to government buildings because the algorithms used to interpret data from the Bend Sensors can be configured for a variety of unique applications. The technology can provide fine-tuned data to instantaneously track and monitor building or venue traffic.
"We are excited by the prospect of entering yet another industry with our Bend Sensor technology," said Flexpoint President Clark Mower. "From a security standpoint, there is considerable value in developing new technologies to track and monitor foot traffic. Companies have a keen interest in staying a step ahead of the curve, and our Bend Sensor technology provides a really unique solution with this security mat."
Flexpoint Sensor Systems (FLXT) is a leading supplier of thin film sensing technology to many industries, including automotive, medical, industrial controls, and consumer products.
