SEATTLE, Aug. 4, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- FlowPlay, a leader in virtual world games and technology, today announced that the company has raised more than $35,000 for earthquake recovery in Nepal. In partnership with 3 Summits for Nepal, an organization that assists underprivileged children in Nepal, funds were raised during a month-long campaign in FlowPlay's flagship social casino game, Vegas World. Thousands of Vegas World players participated in the campaign, which will directly support the rebuilding of two villages in Nepal following the April 25 earthquake and subsequent aftershocks.
For nearly a decade, 3 Summits for Nepal has supported underprivileged children in Nepal by building schools and bringing crucial educational resources to rural areas of the Himalayas. 3 Summits was originally founded under the principle of climbing mountains with a purpose, raising funds by organizing annual climbs to summits throughout the Pacific Northwest – but has since expanded its fundraising efforts to support earthquake recovery in Nepal.
"After the devastating earthquake struck the region earlier this year, we knew the need was so much greater than anything we have seen since starting 3 Summits," said Jwalant Gurung, founder of 3 Summits for Nepal. "Leading our fundraising efforts to support earthquake recovery, FlowPlay and the group of Vegas World players that passionately supported the campaign will help us make a significant impact in the rebuilding of two villages virtually destroyed by the earthquake."
Vegas World players participated in the campaign by purchasing an exclusive in-game virtual good, with 100 percent of the proceeds going directly to 3 Summits for Nepal. More than 100,000 of the limited-edition virtual goods, a 'Ganesha Goddess' Charm, were purchased during the month. Rallying around the cause, Vegas World players also organized more than 900 in-game parties, which required the purchase of a 'Ganesha Goddess' Charm in order to participate.
"Going into the campaign last month, we knew the Vegas World community would embrace the cause, but we were truly blown away by the level of participation and considerable amount of support given by thousands of players," said Derrick Morton, CEO of FlowPlay. "The 3 Summits for Nepal cause is one that I am personally passionate about having participated in the climbs for several years, so to have the Vegas World community rally around the fundraising efforts in light of the devastation in Nepal is inspiring."
