FRANKFURT, Nov. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Fi Europe 2009, the world's leading food ingredients event, opened its doors to industry professionals from around the world in Frankfurt today. The three day event is a long standing highlight of the industry calendar as it brings visitors from over 100 countries from across the industry including manufacturers, suppliers, scientists, technologists and food ingredient buyers.

Over 1,100 exhibitors, including 350 first time Fi attendees, will display a diverse array of products and services. Many of them are new startups with innovative ingredients fresh to the market, offering novel solutions to food manufacturers' technical challenges.

Event Manager Greg Cherry is justifiably optimistic: "My team and I have been working tirelessly since 2007 to ensure that FiE 2009 is the best edition yet. In 2007 we had sushi conveyer belts, live chef demonstrations, and real working kitchens built into some of the most elaborate stands an exhibition has ever seen, and this year will be no different."

Focus on New Features

In addition to annual favorites like the Fi Europe Conference and Seminar Series, several new features have been introduced this year to provide visitors with cutting edge content and enhanced networking opportunities.

The pre-show Breakfast Briefings give attendees a chance to network and hear from leading companies like The Nielsen Company and ING Wholesale Bank over breakfast. The innovative Ingredients in Action pavilion will demonstrate the trends driving new product development today, with particular emphasis on the incorporation of innovative ingredients into finished products.

Natural ingredients Again in the Spotlight

Natural ingredients continue to be a key industry trend and once again this year, Natural ingredients (Ni) will run alongside Fi Europe 2009 as a platform for exploring this exciting market. Ni is a uniquely comprehensive event which showcases cosmetics, personal care, food, medical remedies and nutraceuticals.

Fi Europe Recognizes the Industry's Best

Attendees will be welcomed to a gala reception this evening as the Fi Food Ingredients Excellence Awards are presented for outstanding innovation in the areas of Bakery, Dairy, Snacks, Confectionary and Meat/Savoury. The winners will compete for Fi Europe's highest honour, the Innovation of the Year Award. The award recognizes those companies, research institutes or universities that delivered both innovation and quality to the manufacture and development of food ingredients.
