Food Safety Laboratory Names its First Chief Culture Officer Recognizing why Positive Corporate Culture is More than Potlucks & Foosball
GAINESVILLE, Fla., Feb. 6, 2014 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- When it comes to food safety testing laboratories, the human resources department is an unexpected place to hear of innovation and development. However, for ABC Research Laboratories in Gainesville, Florida, this is far from the case. The announcement of HR Managing Director Janelle Peele's successful completion of the Society for Human Resources Management's "Professional in Human Resources Management" certification, and promotion to the role of Chief Culture Officer, is just the latest demonstration of how the company is innovating the ABC Research experience.
"We believe that in order to get the best results for our clients, we must not only hire the best people, but also support our talent with an educated and responsive human resources department," explained ABC Research CEO, Eric Graves. "A good executive team recognizes that maintaining a healthy corporate culture can't work from the top down. Company culture is constantly morphing and reshaping. It takes a key player that can work both at the executive level, and still be in constant interaction with our team members, where the true culture that shapes a company's reputation grows. Janelle Peele is exactly the person any CEO would dream to have functioning in this role, and ABC Research is honored to support her continued training in the field, and recognize her as ABC Research's first chief culture officer."
"Having a chief culture officer is more than just a foosball table in the break room," added Chief Scientific Officer, Gillian Dagan, PhD. "This role taps directly into the soul of ABC Research and affects every facet of our organization from structuring our departments to creating efficient and consistent experiences for each of our clients. It is a highly demanding position, and there is no one I would trust more than Janelle Peele to complete the task."
Peele, a dual citizen of the Republic of Panama and the United States, moved to Florida in 1995 to attend the University of Florida where she received her B.S. and M.S. in Food Science and Human Nutrition. She joined ABC Research Laboratories in 2005 as a food scientist. From 2009 to 2011 Peele completely reinvented ABC Research's Quality Assurance Department, becoming department director in 2011. Recognizing her natural interpersonal, leadership and managerial skills, ABC Research promoted her to Human Resources Managing Director in 2012.
"My love for HR stems from my passion for people," remarked Janelle Peele. "I believe that communication is an art. It is important to have an intuitive understanding of people in order to realize their needs and be able to motivate and engage them in your business. This is not possible without the power of communication. At ABC Research, food testing experts are the company's greatest asset. I look forward to undertaking this pivotal role and being a part of ABC Research's strategic executive team."
Other recent efforts ABC Research has made to bolster corporate culture include introduction of gym membership reimbursement, improved health care and retirement savings plans, employee appreciation days, and complimentary Red Cross first aid and CPR training certification.
