"We are thrilled to have Kenny as our special guest and spokesperson for this educational event that is available FREE to junior high and high school students," says Rennie Gold , Artistic Director and Choreographer of Project Moves. "He is a solid role model and example of what is possible when you are true to yourself. His message deals with a subject that hits close to home for many of the dancers." Gold says the June 28th benefit performance will be followed by a Q & A where Kenny and other Company members will address some of the confusing issues that kids face surrounding human acceptance and respect.
In 2010 the young dancers of Project Moves embarked on a mission to be the change generation by speaking out against bullying in the critically acclaimed ….accept ME which was performed to sold-out audiences across the Greater Brockton area. Last July the company brought their message of acceptance to one of the most prestigious dance stages in the country, The Joyce Theatre in New York City. Later last year, upon invitation of the show producers, members of the dance company performed on ABC's top-rated Dancing with the Stars.
According to Gold, the Project Moves message is being heard. In March 2012, the company's opening performance of the critically-acclaimed One Human Race , premiered to full houses at the Boston Center for the Arts Calderwood Pavilion and continues to extend its audience reach. "This encore performance of One Human Race expands on that message and challenges all of us on our attitudes toward acceptance and makes us ask ourselves what we will do to make a difference," says Gold. "Because of the support and generosity of so many families in the Greater Boston area, we are able to bring this important event to students free of charge. This is what the Project Moves mission is all about. Through dance art we want to help change the face of tolerance to acceptance by reaching kids all over New England."
VIP tickets are $100 to attend both the performance and a special reception immediately following with Mr. Wormald, the cast and choreographers, other special guests and presentations. The general public can purchase tickets at the company's website, www.projectmoves.org. General Admission tickets to the performance are available for $25 at the company's website, www.projectmoves.org.
Donation and sponsorship packages for the non-profit 501c3 company are also available through the website.
