NEW YORK, Jan. 27, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Talk about hitting it out of the park. This time last year international cricket star Kieran Powell was a member of the West Indies international team and had little baseball experience. Now, thanks to 5WPR, baseball and cricket fans alike—not to mention plenty of consumers—are well aware of Powell's dreams of becoming the first cricketer to earn a roster spot with Major League Baseball team.

Considered one of the most talented batsmen in cricket, Powell was brought to the United States to train for professional baseball after being spotted by Los Angeles Dodgers scouts. So exciting is his potential that he had secured multiple private tryouts with the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Milwaukee Brewers. But it was his private audition with the National League Champion New York Mets that gave 5W a juicy hook.  5W PR put on a full-court press with the media regarding Powell's tryout with the Mets, resulting in feature stories about the prospect in top-tier media venues such as the New York Times, which devoted half a page to the story, the Wall Street Journal and USA Today, as well as the authoritative MLB.com. Around the time of the tryout with the Mets, 5W generated another string of stories about Powell that ran in CBS Sports, NBC Sports and Yahoo Sports.

The agency also issued a press release across the wires announcing Powell's MLB scouting tryout on January 13 at the renowned IMG Academy in Bradenton, FL, which trains athletes to compete at the highest level in their respective sport. These efforts, in turn, sparked a spate of international coverage, including Cricket Country, Sydney Morning Herald, The Age and other media venues interested in Powell's story. 5W then built on the growing global media interest in Powell.

All told, 5W garnered more than 229 million media impressions on behalf of Powell.

"During my crucial transitional journey of becoming a two-sport athlete, 5WPR has been excellent to partner with," Powell said. "The 5WPR team is proactive, hands-on and extremely results-orientated. The [agency's] professionalism is second to none and it has been a pleasure collaborating with the team."
