Former Ohio State University Medical Center Fundraising Leader Launches Specialized Consulting Firm

COLUMBUS, Ohio, March 1, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Bill Mountcastle , a veteran  hospital fundraiser with over 20 years in the industry, announces the launch of Health Philanthropy Services Group, LLC, a Columbus-based consulting firm geared toward  improving the fundraising performance of academic medical centers, health systems, community hospitals, and health organizations. Prior to the launch, Mountcastle worked at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, University Hospitals of Cleveland, and Cleveland Clinic.

Health Philanthropy Services Group, LLC, creates healthy philanthropic results, provide solutions and cost-effective and innovative professional services for nonprofit health care organizations.  The consulting firm is comprised of experienced senior healthcare philanthropy executives who have led both at a strategic and operational level, with strong track records in developing, driving, and managing healthcare fundraising improvement and development, change management, and turn-around.  "Our ability to build successful philanthropic cultures for nonprofit healthcare organizations, improve grateful patient donor development, and to increase fundraising results is what separates us from other fundraising consultants," said Mountcastle.

Donor generosity to health causes is truly distinctive.  The need for transformational philanthropy in health, medical education, research, and clinical care has never been greater.  U.S. medical centers and hospitals are thinking differently about how philanthropy is impacting their operations.

Hospitals' reliance on philanthropy is on the increase and hospital fundraising offices are pushing the envelope on new fundraising strategies.  Chief development officers are being charged to respond with meaningful information that addresses management questions of efficiencies and the optimization of fund-raising capacity.  Health-related non-profits must focus on enhancing the important relationships between their philanthropic donors and those who provide care services to them, their families, and communities.

Implementation of the Affordable Care Act is the leading challenge facing hospital leaders in the coming year.  Funding sources are changing, research costs continue to rise faster than sources of funding and operational costs need to be lowered.  "Philanthropy has moved from a value-added function to an important and integral part of financial planning for health care.  Expectations for development and fundraising accountability are increasing to a level on par with system operations," said Mountcastle.

The firm officially launched March 1 and has already accepted West Virginia University School of Medicine, MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, and Mercer Health as its first clients.
