With profits of Fortune 500 companies plunging by 84.7 percent (from 2007 level) to just US$98.9 billion in 2009, IT budgets have shrunk and it's no longer business as usual for software vendors. Global software players are maneuvering the turbulent waters with new business models and mergers and acquisitions; Oracle's acquisition of Sun Microsystems being the most recent.
However, amidst the turbulence, several opportunities for innovation are emerging -- cloud computing, on-demand software and collaboration platforms are amongst the most obvious.
"In order to capitalize on these opportunities, Korean software players are re-configuring their business models and solutions. Backed by government policies to develop the next wave of knowledge economy, they are structuring themselves to meet, if not exceed, the expectations of their increasingly global and sophisticated customers. This is redefining competition in the global software industry," remarks Kam Soon Siew, Director for ICT Growth Consulting at Frost & Sullivan.
Frost & Sullivan is pleased to present its analyst briefing (webinar) on the Changing Global Economic Order and the Tall Re-Order of the Global Software Industry -- An Emerging Player's Perspective on Competitive Strategies. The briefing will be held on Tuesday, 15 December 2009, at 10:00am KST.
This interactive briefing will focus on three important aspects:
- Impact of global economic slowdown on IT investments and expenditure
- Insights into the emerging global software industry -- landscape and structure
- How emerging players are redefining value creation in the software solutions market
