CASTILLA, Spain, May 31, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Located south from the Castilian Plateau, some 60 kilometers from Madrid, and known as the homeland for Don Quixote, Castilla-La Mancha is the natural region with the largest extension in Spain, well known internationally and with the largest extension of vineyards in the world as over 530,000 hectares are dedicated to this purpose, which means that approximately half the territory is given over to grapevines.  Its territory is comprised by the municipalities that conform the provinces of Albacete, Ciudad Real, Cuenca, Guadalajara, and Toledo. The region has a traditional and deep-rooted wine producing vocation, driven by the collection of natural features that makes it the ideal area for the production of grapes, and in consequence, spectacular wines.

This is how unique wines, unlike any other in the world, are produced in the land of Don Quixote.  Castilla-La Mancha is an exceptional region as it has been blessed with adequate soil, a beneficial climate, a great diversity of grapes, and a long tradition in grape growing and wine production, which results in unrivaled wines due to the quality of the fruit, which has a direct effect on the flavor, color, and aroma of each wine.  These factors print definitive characteristics to Castilla-La Mancha Wines.

Growing grapes is an essential heritage of the region; it stimulates the economic, social, environmental, cultural, and historic growth, and has become a landmark icon for this territory, which has also established customs and popular festivities.

Some days ago, Castilla-La Mancha Wines made their first public appearance in the United States through a Road Show that included seminars and tastings in Atlanta, Chicago, and New York City.  

Grape Varieties of the Region

Castilla-La Mancha is a territory of contrasts; our historic and natural diversity is perfectly exemplified in the varieties of our vines, which are the main characteristic of our wines.  

At the present, 46 grape varieties are grown in Castilla-La Mancha, of which 23 are red and 23 are white.
