DENVER, Dec. 22 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- ARCADIS (EURONEXT: ARCAD), the international design, consulting, engineering and management services company, today announced that Gary Coates has been appointed Chief Operating Officer of ARCADIS U.S., effective January 1, 2010. This appointment allows distributing leadership responsibilities in ARCADIS U.S.' organization as Steve Blake, the CEO of ARCADIS U.S., assumes his additional role on the Executive Board of the global company ARCADIS NV as of January 1, 2010.

Coates previously held the position of COO for ARCADIS U.S. prior to his appointment as President of the Environmental Division. During that time, he was responsible for managing ARCADIS' operations throughout the U.S. He was highly successful in ensuring the collective focus and direction of ARCADIS resources to increase profitability and service diversification.

Coates started his career in 1973 and joined ARCADIS in 1989. He offers 36 years of diverse experience in operational management and national and international business development. As the first director of ARCADIS global multinational clients program in the nineties, he gained extensive international experience and knowledge of ARCADIS' operations outside the U.S.
