New Survey Reveals: Workout Wear Gets Women To Exercise; Regimes Continue Despite Weak Economy

NEW YORK, Feb. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Dress for success is moving from work to workout according to a new survey released today by Zobha yoga and fitness apparel that looks at women's views on exercise regimes and fitness fashion. The survey found that not only are fitness clothes playing a significant role in women's everyday wardrobe, but wearing the stylish gear can actually inspire and motivate women to achieve their goal: exercise.

And despite the economic environment, nearly all women surveyed who currently exercise say they will continue, but about two-thirds have scaled back financially in some way.

"The survey confirms what we believe -- it is even more important to incorporate a fitness regime during tough times and we all need a bit of inspiration to make it happen," said Jamie Hanna, yoga instructor and founder of Zobha yoga and fitness apparel. "Flattering fitness clothes that perform well, wash well and are comfortable move women gracefully from daily errands to deserved exercise and make good financial sense."

The survey draws a strong link to the motivational power of a stylish, comfortable workout wardrobe to counter some popular exercise excuses:

I'm too busy to motivate...

  • Seventy-five (75) percent of women surveyed said they are more likely to get to their workout if they're already wearing fitness clothes
  • Seventy-one (71) percent of women surveyed wear fitness apparel for activities beyond their workout like running errands, caring for children and having lunch with friends
  • Thirty-two percent (32) choose fitness apparel as their primary casual day outfit and 31 percent wear exercise clothes up to four hours in addition to their workout
  • When asked why women wear their fitness clothes for other activities beyond exercise, 69 percent cited comfort, 27 percent said they like feeling and looking sporty and 15 percent of women said the clothes remind them they did something good for themselves

I can't afford to exercise...

  • Only one percent of women already exercising said they have stopped exercising due to the current economic environment
  • Thirty (30) percent of women surveyed aren't cutting back on any fitness expenses at all
  • Yet, 55 percent of women are choosing to exercise at home or outside

I have nothing to fun to wear...

  • More than half of women surveyed (53 percent) and 60 percent of women ages 25-34 said they are more likely to work out if their outfit is stylish and well made
  • About half of respondents (49 percent) said that investing in new workout clothes helps them sustain a fitness regime

Zobha survey of 1,000 US women respondents 18+ conducted in November 2008 with +/- 3% error rate and 95% level of confidence.
