General Dynamics Awarded $12 Million to Support Federal Aviation Administration System Engineering 2020 Program

FAIRFAX, Va., Sept. 30, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- General Dynamics (NYSE: GD) has been awarded a five-year, $12 million task order by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to provide NextGen Integration and Evaluation Capability (NIEC) support. This task order was awarded under the FAA's System Engineering 2020 program, which was awarded to General Dynamics in 2010.

General Dynamics will provide engineering, operations, software design and development, infrastructure and administrative support to NIEC's laboratory. The NIEC laboratory is the FAA's research platform to explore, integrate and evaluate NextGen technologies and concepts, providing researchers with a range of air traffic management systems and tools that model and simulate the National Airspace System (NAS). This work supports the FAA's NextGen modernization program to transform the NAS from a ground-based system of air traffic control to a satellite-based system of air traffic management. Work will be performed by existing General Dynamics employees at the FAA's William J. Hughes Technical Center at the Atlantic City International Airport in Pomona, N.J.

General Dynamics also helped the FAA migrate from a Public Branch Exchange (PBX) telephony environment to a modern infrastructure based on a Voice-over-Internet Protocol (VoIP) and IP telephony technologies under the FAA's Administrative Voice Enterprise Services (FAVES) program.

This contract was awarded to General Dynamics One Source, a joint venture of General Dynamics Information Technology, General Dynamics Advanced Information Systems and General Dynamics C4 Systems.
