George Winston's Remembrance Honors The Fallen, Aiding Victims' Families And Survivors of Terrorist Attack
100% Artist Royalties To Be Donated by Winston to Families of the Victims and
Survivors of September 11th
Windham Hill Recording Features Six New Compositions for Solo
Piano, Guitar and Harmonica
NEW YORK, Oct. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- George Winston will release REMEMBRANCE,
a six-track CD on the Windham Hill label comprised of new solo compositions
and arrangements for piano, guitar and harmonica. 100% of artist royalties
will be donated to families of victims and survivors of the September 11th
tragedy. Winston produced the album and wrote four of the six pieces.
REMEMBRANCE is due to arrive in stores on November 6.
Tracks on REMEMBRANCE include two pieces for piano ("Lament,"
"Remembrance"), three for guitar ("Where Are You Now;" "Where the Sun Rises
First;" written by Hawaiian slack key guitarists Moses & George Kahumoku; and
"Daughters and Sons," by L. Ke'ala Kwan, Jr., eldest son of influential Slack
Key master Leonard Kwan) and harmonica (a Farewell medley consisting of the
Scottish air "Farewell," the Winston original "Kindness Emerging," "America/My
Country 'Tis of Thee," and "Taps").
Winston will also play a solo benefit concert in New York in December
(date and location tbd).
"I was totally shocked and saddened by the September 11 tragedies, and
when driving home all night from my Bakersfield concert on September 14, this
benefit album came to me and I immediately recorded it," said George Winston.
"It will benefit people affected by these events now, and its proceeds will
continue to assist those in need forever." The release of REMEMBRANCE comes
on the heels of Windham Hill's special salute to the 20th anniversary of the
release of Winston's multi-platinum solo recordings Autumn (1980) and its
follow-up December (1982). Windham Hill Records celebrated the impact of both
recordings with special editions of each that include bonus tracks and sheet
music. Autumn-20th Anniversary Edition was released on September 11, and
partial proceeds from artists' royalties will also benefit those affected by
the September 11 tragedies. December-20th Anniversary Edition is to be
released on October 23.
In 1998, George Winston celebrated his 25th anniversary as a recording
artist, world-renowned pianist, composer, and producer. In 1972 Winston
released his first album, Ballads and Blues 1971, which remains very active in
the catalog, as are all of Winston's many releases. Among his other platinum
and gold albums are Winter Into Spring (1982), Summer (1991), Forest (1994
Grammy Award Winner), Linus & Lucy - The Music of Vince Guaraldi (1996), and
Plains (1999). His next solo piano album, to be released in September 2002 is
The Night Divides the Day - The Music of the Doors. Winston also founded
Dancing Cat Records in 1983, which is the foremost label recording the masters
of the Hawaiian Slack Key guitar tradition. George has produced and released
33 recordings to date in the Hawaiian slack key guitar masters series.
