Georgia Power crews head north to assist with latest winter storms
ATLANTA, March 5, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Georgia Power is responding to calls for help through its mutual assistance network. Utilities in the mid-Atlantic and Northeast are facing a difficult restoration process following expected high winds and heavy snow in the region.

Crews began travel Tuesday, March 5, 2013 and typically stay one to two weeks, depending on needs of both the host and home utility. |

As of Tuesday morning, approximately 200 employees have departed various operating headquarters across Georgia. Areas represented by the traveling crews comprise the metro Atlanta area, east, northeast, northwest, central and coastal regions of the state. Plans are to assist PHI (PEPCO), the electric utility serving the Washington, D.C., area. |

The teams will likely stage in Montgomery County, Md., just outside of Washington. |
The Edison Electric Institute recently honored Georgia Power with its Emergency Recovery Award and Emergency Assistance Award for extraordinary storm response efforts in Georgia as well as through multiple deployments to assist distant utilities during 2012.
Georgia Power is the largest subsidiary of Southern Company, one of the nation's largest generators of electricity. The company is an investor-owned, tax-paying utility with rates below the national average. Georgia Power serves 2.4 million customers in all but four of Georgia's 159 counties.
