'GetYa Learn On' Launches New iPhone Application Ideal for Students Taking Statistics
"Statistics I" Fills Void in the Demand for Comprehensive Educational Applications
AUSTIN, Texas, Nov. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- GetYa Learn On, LLC today announced the availability of its new iPhone application -- "Statistics I" -- for purchase in the iTunes app store. The app is the most extensive educational app available in the market and includes tools and content tailored for both novice students and expert statisticians. It even includes touch-screen simulations specifically designed for visual and tactile learners who need more than just a textbook and a lecture to learn statistics.

"Statistics I" is unlike other educational apps available today in the iTunes store because it was designed by educational psychology scholars and software experts who wanted to utilize the innovative capacities of the iPhone and iPod touch. The app includes lessons, simulations, calculators, decision trees, graphic organizers, quizzes with feedback, flashcards, a glossary of definitions, and a list of commonly needed formulas and symbols. Ultimately, the app provides a more fun, interactive, and engaging way to learn statistics.
This fall, "GetYa Learn On" partnered with Abilene Christian University (ACU) to launch a pilot test in which students taking a statistics course used the app both in conjunction with class lectures, as well as for a convenient study and reference tool outside the classroom. ACU was the first University in the nation to provide free iPhone and iPod touch devices to incoming freshmen.
"The app has been an absolute success among our students because it fits so easily into their already high-tech lifestyles," said Jessica Nyugen, instructor of the introductory Statistics class at ACU.
Early results from the pilot study have been overwhelmingly positive. "It is easy to navigate so I have no problem knowing where I need to go to look things up. It also gives practical examples at the end of every lesson, many of which I used on the test," said one student in the pilot study. Another student said, "It helps with my learning because it is convenient and I can learn anywhere or anytime."
The ACU pilot test will continue until the end of the Fall 2009 semester. GetYa Learn On is planning to release the results in late January 2010 as a whitepaper. Both ACU and GetYa Learn On are discussing an expanded study in the future.
GetYa Learn On is continuing to develop more simulations, calculators, and tools for the next version of "Statistics I". The company is also developing versions of the app for other mobile platforms, such as Google Android.
