GHP Chair Tony Chase Joins Forces With Local Startup For Charity

HOUSTON, Feb. 15, 2011 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Greater Houston Partnership (GHP) Chairman Tony Chase is offering would-be entrepreneurs and business professionals a chance to have a one-on-one session with him over lunch at Tony's, one of Houston's premiere restaurants, if they donate to his favorite charity.

Chase, who is also an attorney, entrepreneur and political insider, is making this opportunity available through a new, local startup, SocialMeter.org, whose goal is to build meaningful business connections with high level executives.  SocialMeter.org establishes those connections by allowing aspiring movers and shakers to bid for access to these executives by donating to their favorite non-profit organizations.  Bids are placed through a blind auction and meetings with the executives are awarded to the highest bidder.  Profiles of the bidders and the executives are provided via LinkedIn.

Malcolm Sykes, founder of SocialMeter.org, says he established the web site to fill two simultaneous needs.  "It helps professionals build relationships and do it with a purpose."

Sykes views SocialMeter.org as a way to fill the knowledge vacuum experienced by young individuals who are launching their careers while, at the same time, providing much-needed funding to charitable groups.

Chase has selected the Houston Museum of African American Culture as his charity of choice.  The Museum, located downtown on Caroline Street, was established to preserve the history of African-American culture in Houston, the state of Texas and the Southwest United States.

In addition to his role as Chairman of the GHP, Mr. Chase is also Chairman of the Houston Zoo Development Board, Lead Director of the Cornell Companies (NYSE), Director, Texas Medical Center, Director, Northern Trust Bank of Texas, member of the Council on Foreign Relations, Director, Western Gas (NYSE) and an Eagle Scout.
