GradeBomb.com Scholarship Program and Beverage Product Reward College Students with Financial Support
NEW YORK, Feb. 15, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Going to college has never been so expensive. All across the country, students are struggling to afford tuition, books, supplies, room and board, and countless other necessities and expenses. That's why two recent college graduates have just launched GradeBomb.com, a social media website dedicated to helping students achieve academically while getting the financial support they need.
"GradeBomb.com came about when my business partner and I were trying to determine how we'd pay for our own college textbooks," said Harry Palomino, who co-founded the site with Robert Restrepo. "We were attending Nyack College, taking six courses a piece, and each book cost about $100 -- it was really expensive. So we organized a scholarship money pool, which was created through student pledges and other donations. Whoever achieved the highest GPA won the money, a concept that rewarded the top performers while motivating everyone to work harder and achieve good grades. We both spotted a revolutionary opportunity to turn our proven idea into a nationwide program, and that's just part of what GradeBomb.com offers today."
GradeBomb.com went live this past January, just as college students head to campuses all across America. Participating is easy -- students simply go to the website, register, and start raising at least $50 toward the scholarship fund, through support from anyone -- family and friends to businesses and organizations, as they contribute to help further a student's educational goals. Aside from external support, GradeBomb.com will fuel the Gradebomb Scholarship through its beverage products, GradebombEnergy drink & Power-Shot (http://www.facebook.com/GradebombEnergy). Proceeds from GradebombEnergy products will provide students with weekly scholarship opportunities - which are open to all students, and help kick start the Gradebomb scholarship fund every fall and spring semester.
At the end of the semester, students who have achieved at least a 3.60 GPA receive a scholarship award. Payout is divided equally among the number of scholarship qualifiers and the total funds raised for each semester. The scholarship program is applicable for undergraduate students attending the nearly 4,000 accredited colleges across the United States.
"Essentially, anyone who reaches his or her goals will be rewarded," said Robert Restrepo. "And it works! -- In our testing phase, participants were rewarded for their success and earned good grades through this unique, incentive-based program."
In addition to the scholarship, GradeBomb.com includes other social media perks, such as the "Life At" blog for sharing stories and information related to college life; the "College News" newsletter, covering everything from sports to entertainment and technology; and "College Chat," a communal video chat for discussing college life, trends, updates or news.
